Our Story
In 1983, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors established a Commission on Women in response to the identified need for advocacy on women’s issues. This commission was comprised entirely of volunteers, received no county funding, and was intended to be self-sustaining through fundraising. It disbanded in 2008.
In 2017, the Loudoun Commission on Women & Girls (LCWAG) was created after a failed 2016 vote by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, introduced by Chair Randall, to re-establish a women’s commission as a result of numerous women constituents reaching out to her about the need for a commission on women and girls. Following continued constituent outreach and community interest, Chair Randall brought together a group of women to independently establish the commission. LCWAG launched in 2017 as a component fund under the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties.
In April 2021, the LCWAG Board of Directors formally established the organization as a 501(c)(3), rebranding as the Loudoun Coalition on Women & Girls. The elected board of directors set the current strategic direction and have remained an all-volunteer organization funded solely through grants and private donations.
We continue to support the vision is that every Loudoun County woman and girl will have equitable opportunities to achieve personal and professional growth. LCWAG remains a nonpartisan, nonpolitical organization that promotes leadership development and fosters an inclusive community for women and girls through education, collaboration and empowerment.
